Help! I need a name!
29 December 2008 · 5 Comments
This is our new puppy.

He came to live with us a week and a day ago and he’s still nameless. His mother was a golden retriever and his father was a black lab and he’s 9 weeks old today. We like to stick with literary names (Hamlet, Silas, Puck, and Brutus are a sampling of previous and current pet names) but nothing seems to feel right. Any suggestions?

Baking Away
16 December 2008 · 2 Comments
We have been working hard on our baking. We don’t purchase many gifts for the holidays. We make most of our gifts and usually they’re edible. R has done much much more baking than I have but I try to help after work. This year we’re making 11 new kinds of cookies, 2 new kinds of candies/snacks, and one new cake. We’re also making the 8 kinds of cookies, 2 breads, 1 cake, and dog biscuits that we always make. We’re up to 56 dozen so far and will soon run out of room in the freezer. Here’s the list of what we’re making:
Cookies
- Almond Roca Cookies
- Butter Horns
- Coconut Cranberry Macaroons
- Cream Crescents
- Galletas Maria
- Ginger Cookies
- Iced Sugar Cookies
- Jelly Filled Crescents
- Knots
- Loaded Oatmeal Cookies
- Lusikkaleivat
- Mazurkas
- Monster Cookies
- Pecan Dreams
- Snickerdoodles
- Sugar Cookies
- The Chewy (the best chocolate chip cookies ever and I don’t even like chocolate)
- Viennese Vanilla Cookies
- Zimtsterne
Candies/Other Snacks
- Cinnamon Pecan Twists
- Praline Pecans
- Pretzel Yummies
- Rum Balls
Breads
- Cranberry Nut Bread
- Cream Cheese Braid
Cakes
- Fig Cake
- Spumoni Cheesecake
We’d be happy to share recipes. Just leave a comment or send an email. We’ll be uploading photos of the cookies soon. We plan to include a list and photo of the cookies we give away as gifts.

I am now the proud owner of sp e rm. It is the most money I have spent in one place in quite some time. We got the donor we wanted. He only had I U I vials left. We were hoping to try at home for a few months but we may have to jump in with both feet. Anyone out there ever used I U I vials for I V I? We may also try home I U I. I have at least a month and a half before we have to worry about that. I am still trying to find a doctor I’m comfortable with. I love my mid wife but they don’t do insems there. I don’t want to wait any longer than we already have.
Now…when do you think I should tell our families that our child will not be the same race as us?

Taking the Plunge

Tomorrow I’ll be ordering what could be half of the genetic material of our child. We won’t be trying for at least a month but we didn’t want him to sell out. We’ve fallen for several donors only to have them sell out. Also, we’re looking for a mixed race donor and they are few and far between.
